Budapest (Day 2) & 1st Performance

After a good nights sleep we were up early for breakfast and ready to see the sights of Budapest. Our bus driver Oliver expertly dropped us at locations around the city and our local tour guide Gabriella took us through the rich history of Budapest and Hungary. We found some lunch in a quirky part of the city and then spent the afternoon exploring further! Some girls enjoyed the shopping strip whilst others took the train up to visit the Haunted House and Museum. The Great Market Hall was also a popular stop. In the late afternoon we reconnected with Agnes and Oliver and headed to St Anne’s Church for our first performance of the tour. A quick change into our performance uniform and we were warming up in this beautiful space. The performance went really well and set us up for a busy day of performances in Bratislava tomorrow. Highlights included Miranda’s solo in I Have a Shelter and the altos holding us together in Waltzing Matilda. We had a good size audience who applauded so vigorously at the conclusion that we sang a reprise if I Am Australian. It was great to meet some of the local Aussie’s living in Budapest who had come to hear us sing. Some of the locals (and Agnes) were also brought to tears by the girls singing. From the church we headed to Mezzo Music Restaurant for some more Hungarian cuisine.

After dinner, we took a quick trip up to the highest point in Budapest to see the city at sunset. This was one of the highlights of the trip so far. Stunning view and a perfect way to end the day. It was then back to the hotel to reflect, regroup and get some rest for the next part of the tour! All in all, Budapest gets a big tick from the girls for places to visit. “We love the beautiful architecture and singing in that stunning Church was amazing! The people are so friendly!”.

And We’re Off…….Budapest!

On Sunday 30 July we said goodbye to our loved ones and set off from Canberra airport.  Rehearsing at the far end of Canberra airport was an interesting experience with at least one passenger enjoying our beautiful voices!  We then linked up with the remaining few members of our tour party in Sydney before boarding our flight to Dubai.  We transferred to our final flight to Budapest and arrived just after lunchtime to a sweltering 38 degree day (a slight adjustment from home) – just enough sunshine and heat to ward off the jet lag.  Here we met our tour manager Agnes who will be looking after us in Europe for the next 2 weeks.  After checking into our hotel we jumped back on the coach and headed into town for a quick guided tour of Budapest.  Our first dinner experience was unique, enjoying the traditional Hungarian cuisine and live music!  We’re all looking forward to a good sleep tonight after a big journey and more sight seeing tomorrow before our first concert performance!

Before We Begin

It has been some time since a CGGS music ensemble has toured internationally. The journey began at the beginning of 2018 with a proposal to take keen singers from Chorale to Europe to perform and experience all that is beautiful about that part of the world – culture, food, people, buildings, history and of course the music! From there, 21 enthusiastic girls signed up for this incredible experience. Rehearsals only commenced fully from the beginning of Term 2, 2019 and in a short space of time, this group of young musicians have transformed into a strong and confident performing ensemble. It is an absolute pleasure to work with these girls and we’re all very excited for the tour to begin! Come along to hear the girls perform at the Choral Recital Wednesday 19 June 6pm in the Chapel. Stay tuned for updates throughout the tour!
